Thinking Outside of the Box Luggage Tutorial

Welcome to this months Thinking Outside of the Box Blog Hop and tutorial!  Each month the Thinking Outside of the Box Design Team will be bringing you fabulous projects that are all to do with boxes, bags and packaging!  PLUS each post will have a tutorial for the project so that you can join in the fun too and make your own version!  I can’t tell you how excited I am to be on this fabulous team with demonstrators from EVERY country that Stampin’ Up! does business in!  Here we all are:

I am pumped to be back joining the team for this months Suitcase theme project!  I missed last month’s hop due to having just started a new job and not having time to stamp – the blog has been a little sporadic the last month but I think I have life a little more sorted and balanced now so hopefully a little more crafting & blogging will happen!

As soon as I saw the leopard print in the Animal Expedition Designer Series Paper pack, I knew my suitcase was going to be for the ultimate fashionista!  No fashion conscious girls luggage is complete without a leopard print & hot pink suitcase right?

The suitcase itself is actually 2 boxes fitted together and then it slides into the decorative outer.  It’s a great size box to fit all kinds of things – a beautiful silk scarf, jewellery or just sweet treats!

There are so many options for decorating your suitcase but I kept mine very simple with just the straps and handle – how awesome is that Lovely Lipstick colour!  I added sponging to all my elements to give the case that well-travelled look!

HERE’S HOW TO MAKE YOUR OWN SUITCASE:

For the lid of your box you will need cardstock measuring 9 5/8″ x 8 1/4″
Score the Long Side at 1 1/8″, 2 1/4″, 7 1/4″ & 8 3/8″
Score the Short Side at 1 1/8″, 2 1/4″, 6″ & 7 1/8″
Fold along score lines and then cut as shown.
Add adhesive to tabs and outermost flaps and assemble box.

For the base of your box you will need cardstock measuring 9 1/8″ x 7 3/4″
Score the Long Side at 1″, 2″, 7 1/8″ & 8 1/8″
Score the Short Side at 1″, 2″, 5 3/4″ & 6 3/4″
Fold along score lines and then cut as shown.
Add adhesive to tabs and outermost flaps and assemble box.

Once assembled your boxes will look like this:

Burnish the folded edges of your boxes well and then slip the small box inside the larger one.

Cut designer series paper to the width of your completed box and then wrap it around the box before adhering the ends – the DSP will create a sleeve to slide your box in and out from.
Decorate your suitcase as you wish!
